HISTORY AND SONG NOTES

Mr. Frog is a Diller-Quaile favorite for exploring high and low sounds, in this case octaves. Most young children will not yet be able to sing an octave jump as indicated in the music, but they enjoy bouncing along with the beat, and showing the high and low jumps as you sing; this is a lovely first introduction to the concept. The “splash” at the end is always a favorite.

Finger play

For this song, you use your hands to represent Mr. Frog. Mr. Frog bounces to the beat of the music on your lap, or around on the floor during the first line of the song, and then he jumps to show the high and low sounds, which are also octave jumps, finally splashing into the water at the end. The children may also enjoy using a stuffed animal frog, or a scarf, to represent Mr. Frog.

BOUNCE

This song makes an excellent lap bounce for babies, infants, or toddlers in adult/child settings, or by older children bouncing or moving on their own. The children may enjoy if you bounce them on your lap during the first line of the song, and then raise and lower your knees or arms to show the high and low sounds on the second line.
